In this tutorial simulation steel beam reinforced concrete under compression load in Abaqus has been studied. The beam and concrete are modeled as three dimensional part and you can see the assembled part at below
The steel beam material is modeled as elastic, plastic and ductile damage behavior and for concrete concrete damage plasticity is used. Tow rigid body are created as hydraulic and supporter. In this simulation both stat and dynamic analysis can be used, but dynamic explicit procedure is so better to avoid unconvergece and reduce the time .The general contact algorithm for all parts has been used and the contact between steel beam and concrete is assumed perfect contact. The boundary conditions are assigned to the top and bottom rigid surface and displacement control to observe the maximum capacity is used. The model needs a proper mesh to achieve the best result.
After the simulation beam and concrete damage such as ductile, tensile and compressive damage can be obtained from the results. The reaction force displacement diagram for this analysis shows the maximum bearing of the assembled part. You can see some results of this simulation at below
