Simulation of high speed impact into ceramic composite systems using JH2 material model in Abaqus

Since ceramics are low density materials with high compressive strength, there are of great interests in the application of ceramics for weight-saving armor systems.Although experimental approach offers the most accurate results, it is expensive and sometimes does not provide detail information of the highly
dynamic event. Recently, three-dimensional computations have been performed routinely since they allow for the investigation of many interesting three-dimensional effects.in this video represents computations for impact to metal/ceramic/metal composite plates using a three-dimensional explicit Lagrangian model in ABAQUS.To describe the dynamic behavior of brittle materials, Johnson Holmquist(JH2) material model has been used. Johnson- Cook model for steel plates has been used as plasticity and damage. You can see a figure of the parts positions in the analysis at below

Dynamic Explicit procedure is appropriate for this this analysis. To consider internal element failure general contact capability as edit keyboard change with nodal erosion has been applied. You can see some figures of the result at below
