In this tutorial, the Simulation low energy impact on the multilayered wood panel in Abaqus-Damage investigation – has been done. The rigid ball is modeled as a three-dimensional shell part with a specific mass. Each wood panel is modeled as a three-dimensional solid part, and between the layers, the cohesive contact is selected. You can see a figure of the assembled parts below
Damage initiation refers to the onset of degradation at a material point. In Abaqus the damage initiation criteria for fiber-reinforced composites are based on Hashin’s theory. These criteria consider four different damage initiation mechanisms: fiber tension, fiber compression, matrix tension, and matrix compression. In this tutorial, the Hashin damage model is considered for the wood panel under the impact. The engineering elastic model, also plastic model with Hill’s theory can be used. The dynamic explicit step with general contact capability is selected. The cohesive behavior as contact property by using stiffness, damage and its evolution are defined to model interlaminar failure. The initial velocity is assigned to the rigid impactor and fixed boundary condition to the wood panel sides. The mesh should be fine to obtain the correct results
After the simulation, all results such as stress, strain, damage, failure,… are available
You can see some figures for the results below
