Simulation four point bending of the CFRP sheet with six layers (inter laminar cohesive behavior) in Abaqus

In this tutorial, the Simulation four point bending of the CFRP sheet with six layers (inter laminar cohesive behavior) in Abaqus has been studied. The CFRP layers are modeled as three-dimensional solid part. Two rigid bodies were used as hydraulic jack to apply the load. You can see a figure of the assembled parts below

Composite materials, especially carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates, have been widely used in the design and manufacturing of high-speed train car bodies due to their high specific stiffness and strength. CFRP laminates provide excellent fuel efficiency and fatigue resistance. However, they are prone to damages caused by impact issues, which significantly reduce the residual compressive strength and impact-resistance.The failure modes in laminated composites are commonly classified into intralaminar and interlaminar damages, in which the intralaminar damage is characterized by fiber breakage and matrix cracking, while the interlaminar damage mainly presents delamination. The CFRP material is modeled as an elastic material with lamina type and to consider damage and evolution the Hashin’s damage criterion is used. The dynamic explicit step with mass scale technique to reduce simulation time is used. The surface to surface interaction between rigid bodies and CFRP sheet is implanted. The inetrlaminar interaction base on the cohesive surface interaction by using cohesive stiffness and damage property with evolution are assigned to the internal surfaces. The fixed boundary condition in assigned to the two ends of the CFRP layers and displacement with a smooth amplitude to the two rigid bodies. The mesh should be fine to obtain correct results
