In this tutorial, the Simulation dynamic bending test of an interior voided RC UHPC beam in Abaqus has been studied. The Ultra-High-Performance Concrete beam is modeled as three-dimensional solid part with interior sphere voids. The steel bar and strips are modeled as three-dimensional wire parts. The rigid bodies are used as hydraulic jack to apply load on the top surface of the UHPC beam. You can see a figure of the assembled parts below
The voided beam is so lighter than the solid beam with the same flexural strength. In this example the Concrete Damage Plasticity material model is used to consider the non-linear behavior of the UHPC beam under bending test. The compression and tension data with their damage are used to consider crack propagation and stiffness degradation. The steel material with elastic-plastic behavior is selected for the bar and strip.
Both static and dynamic solver can be used but in the static procedure because of the not convergence, the time of the analysis is too much so in this tutorial, the dynamic explicit step is selected. The surface to surface contact with contact property as friction is selected between rigid bodies and top surface of the beam. The bars and strips are embedded inside the concrete beam. The fixed boundary condition is assigned to the two sides of the beam and displacement to the two top rigid bodies. The mesh should be fine to obtain the correct results
After the simulation all results such as stress, strain, tensile and compressive damage, force-displacement diagram, and… are available. You can see some figures for the results below
