In this tutorial, the Simulation compression test of a composite column(wood-uhpc-steel cover) in Abaqus has been investigated. The wood core and Ulta-High-Performance-Concrete parts are modeled as three-dimensional solid parts. The steel cover is modeled as a shell part. You can see a figure of the assembled parts below
Wood columns are vertical structural components made from timber, designed to bear loads and transfer them to the foundations. The elastic-plastic material model is selected to demonstrate the wood behavior under compression load. To model the UHPC, the Concrete Damage Plasticity is considered. The model is a continuum, plasticity-based, damage model for concrete. It assumes that the main two failure mechanisms are tensile cracking and compressive crushing of the concrete material. Two types of materials for concrete are used, in the second model, to consider full failure, the failure strain is implanted. The elastic-plastic data with ductile damage criterion also selected for the steel cover
The dynamic and static procedure both can be used in this example, the general contact capability to consider all contacts in the contact domain is used. The perfect contact is assumed among the column member surfaces. The bottom rigid body is fixed and the load is applied to the top. The mesh should be fine to obtain the correct results
After the simulation stress, strain, tension and compression damage, concrete failure, force-displacement diagram, and other results are available. You can see some figures for the results below
You can provide CAE, INP, and English video files of this simulation here. The cost of these files is Thirty Euros. you can click on the bellow bottom to begin the process
