In this tutorial the Simulation CFRP water storage tank under close air blast explosion in Abaqus has been investigaed. The CFRP tank is modeled as a three-dimensional shell part. The water is modeled as solid part and it’ll used as reference volume in load section to define the amount and its location inside the domain. The surrounding around tank and water is modeled as Eulerian part. You can see a figure of the assembled parts below
Damage initiation refers to the onset of degradation at a material point. In ABAQUS the damage initiation criteria for fiber reinforced composites are based on Hashin’s theory. These criteria consider four different damage initiation mechanisms: fiber tension, fiber compression, matrix tension, and matrix compression. The CFRP material with sixteen layers is selected for the tank. The lamina elasticity and Hashin damage model is used for that. To model water behavior Us-Up model by using sound velocity definition is selected.
The dynamic explicit step with a specific time is considered, the mass scale technique can be used also. The general contact algorithm with contact property is selected for all domains. The CONWEP air blast method is defiend to consider the explosion near the the tank with specific amount of TNT. The proper boundary conditions are applied to the parts. The volume fraction method is used to define the amount of water and its location in side the Eulerian domain. The proper mesh size should be used to have good results in visualization.
