In this tutorial Simulation bearing capacity of a three dimensional square foundation in Abaqus base on the Sam Helwany’s book has been investigated. To model soil and foundation a one three dimensional part is used.You can see a figure about it at below

The elastic and cap plasticity with cap hardening model for soil is used.In this tutorial two static step has been implied. In the first step gravity and pressure load from overburden soil is applied and in the second step the vertical velocity is applied to the square foundation to get the bearing capacity like below figure

after assigned the vertical velocity to the foundation the soil experienced a large deformation which need to be converge by using an appropriate mesh. After the simulation the stress,strain,displacement and bearing capacity diagram can be achieved . You can see some figures of this simulation at below.
