Simulation low energy impact of a rigid hammer on the wood-cement-concrete panel in Abaqus

In this tutorial, Simulation low energy impact of a rigid hammer on the wood-cement-concrete panel in Abaqus has been investigated. The panel contians three layers, top layer is wood-cement part as a soild model, the second layer is normal strenght concrete as a solid part, and third layer is wood-cement part as a soild model. The hammer is shell rigid body. Because of the symmetry, on quarter of the whole model is created. You can see a figure of the assembled parts below

Energy and environmental issues are major concerns in the global perspective of sustainable development. The housing sector is particularly energy-intensive. It is a major greenhouse gas emitter and consumer of natural resources. This context has led the scientific community to reassess the performance of building materials on the basis of embodied energy and environmental impact. Bio-sourced materials combined with a cementitious matrix offer an interesting alternative to traditional construction materials. To contribute to their wider acceptance by the sustainable construction market, an investigation into the use of wood-cement composite panels as stay-in-place or permanent formwork is presented

The CDPM has the potential to represent the complete inelastic behaviour of the wood-concrete material in both tension and compression, including damage effects, so for both wood-cement and concrete material, the CDP model is selected. The step should be a dynamic one and dynamic explicit step is so good for these type of analysis. The idea or perfect contact is assumed between the layers, and a surface to surface contact with contact property for the rigid body and tp surface of the panel. The symmetry boundary conditions are assigned to the panel and initial velocity to the hammer. The mesh should be fine to obtain the correct results

After the simulation, all results such as stress, strain, damage, deformation, and … are available. You can see some figures for the results below
