In this tutorial, the Simulation three points bending of Ultra High Performance Concrete beam with metal foam in Abaqus has been investigated. The concrete beam and metal foam or titanium foam are modeled as three-dimensional solid parts. Three rigid bodies are used to consider boundary and force parts. You can see a figure of the assembled parts below
The UHPC beam material is model as an elastic-plastic model. The CDP model is used for the UHPC plasticity. Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) is an advanced technology in the concrete industry with superior characteristics such as high strength in compression and tension, ductility, and durability. This plasticity model takes tension and compression behavior separately. The metal foam is modeled as an elastic-plastic material. The Crushable foam plasticity as the isotopic type with hardening is implied. This model can predict the compression of the foam accurately. The general static step is used to model static bending. The surface to surface contact between rigid bodies and concrete beam with friction as a contact property is used. The perfect contact is assumed between the metal foam and concrete. The fixed boundary condition is assigned to the two bottom rigid bodies and the displacement with amplitude to the top rigid body. The mesh should be fine to obtain correct results
After the simulation, all results such as stress, strain, displacement, and force-displacement diagram are achievable. You can see some figures for the results below
