In this tutorial, the Simulation damage phenomenon on the concrete-filled double skin steel box under dynamic bending in Abaqus has been studied. The internal and external steel boxes are modeled as a tree-dimensional shell part. The concrete is modeled as a three-dimensional solid part. You can see a figure of the assembled parts at below
Concrete filled double skin tube (CFDST) columns are a new method of column construction. CFDST columns consist of two steel hollow sections, one inside the other, concentrically aligned. The cross-sections of the two hollow sections do not have to be the same shape. Concrete is cast in between the two hollow sections resulting in a CFDST. This study only considers CFDST columns constructed with circular steel hollow sections
To model steel behavior, elastic-plastic data with ductile damage criterion has been used to predict a damaged zone after loading. To have a proper approach of the concrete material, the Johnson-Holmquist model which is appropriate for dynamic and quasi-static simulation has been used. The dynamic explicit step is appropriate for this type of analysis. The surface to surface contact with contact property like friction coefficient, shear stress limit, and the elastic limit is used. The general contact is used for the other interaction in the contact domain. The fixed boundary condition is used for the bottom rigid parts and displacement for the upper rigid part. The mesh should be fine to consider proper damage and crack propagation. After the simulation damage for the steel parts and concrete, stress and strain, and force-displacement diagram are achievable. You can see some figures for the result below
