In this tutorial, Simulation High-velocity impact of a brass projectile on the Ceramic-Aluminum-Glass fiber in Abaqus has been investigated. The brass projectile, the ceramic plate, aluminum plate, and epoxy-glass layers are modeled as three-dimensional parts. You can see a figure of the assembled parts at below
The brass material is modeled as an elastic with Johnson-Cook plasticity and damage, the brass is modeled as an elastic with Johnson-Cook plasticity and damage model, the ceramic is modeled as the Beissel model and the elastic data with fail stress and Hashin’s damage criterion for epoxy-glass is used. The dynamic explicit step is appropriate for this type of analysis. The Abaqus CAE can’t consider the erosion and internal elements’ failure, so to define these issues input file capability is used to model internal damage and erosion. The contact is defined as general contact in the input file. The fixed boundary condition for around the plates and initial velocity 550m/s is assigned to the projectile. The mesh should be fine especially in the contact zone to achieve a proper result in the visualization.
After the simulation the results such as stress, strain, damage, plastic strain,….can be achievable. You can see some figures for the result below
You can provide CAE ,INP,and English video files of this simulation here. The cost of these files is Thirty Euros. you can click on the bellow bottom to beginning process
