In this tutorial Finite element modeling of reinforced concrete beams externally strengthened in flexure with side-bonded CFRP laminates in Abaqus has been done. The concrete beam and epoxy glue are modeled as three dimensional part, the CFRP is modeled as three dimensional shell part, the bar is modeled as three dimensional wire part. You can see some figures of the assembled parts at below
The recent advancement in material sciences has led to development of composites, most notably fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets and plates. Such FRP composite materials comprise of high strength continuous fibers (with load carrying abilities) embedded in a polymer matrix (resin). This composite material has superior mechanical properties, including high stiffness/strength to weight ratio, good tolerance to creep and fatigue, as well as resistance to corrosion and harsh environments
To model concrete behavior elastic with concrete damage plasticty data, the steel material with elastic plastic behavior for bars, the elastic and Hashin’s damage criterion for CFRP,elastic as traction and traction separation law for glue are used. General static step is appropriate for this type of analysis. The contact between concrete and glue and glue with CFRP assumed as a perfect contact. To consider interaction among all parts, general contact with friction is used. The proper boundary conditions are assigned to the rigid bodies. By using fine mesh better result can be achievable .
After the simulation all results such as,damage for CFRP,tensile and compressive damage for concrete and damage for glue are obvious. You can see some figures of the results at below
