In this tutorial simulation blast resistance of sandwich structure(Ceramic-Foam-Aluminum) in Abaqus has been investigated. As a result of their low weight and superior flexural properties, sandwich structures, based on strong, stiff skins bonded to low density cores are finding increasing use in a wide range of engineering structures. In a bid to take advantage of their attractive dynamic properties and overall light weight, engineers have been investigating the energy-absorbing characteristics of sandwich structures when subjected to blast loading
The model is contains three parts. Silicon plate, foam as core part and aluminum . The goal of this simulation is protection of the aluminum part under blast load. The Johnson-Cook plasticity and damage for aluminium, crushable foam with elasticity for foam and suitable material model for silicon carbide have been used. You can see a figure of the assembled parts at below
Dynamic explicit step is appropriate for this type of analysis. The perfect contact between surfaces has been assigned. Because of the symmery just one quarter of the model has been generated. CONWEP procedure has used to consider air blast explosion. The symmetry and fixed boundary are assigned to the structure.
After the simulation damage, stress, displacement and other results can be extracted. You can see some figures of the result at below
You can provide CAE ,INP,and English video files of this simulation here. The cost of these files is Twenty-Six Euros. you can click on the bellow bottom to beginning process
